Morning Light Magic | Why Early Sessions Shine at Carmel Beach
There’s something special about being by the ocean in the morning. The waves are soft, the light is golden, and the beach feels even more peaceful. I recently had the joy of photographing a beautiful young family at Carmel Beach during the morning hours, and it was such a lovely reminder how much fun morning sessions can be.
If you're considering family photos at the coast, here are a few reasons why morning might be the perfect time, especially at a place as popular as Carmel Beach.
☀️ Soft, Diffused Light
There’s a reason photographers love golden hour, and morning light is its softer, often overlooked twin. The sun rises over the hills behind the beach, casting gentle light across the sand and water. This kind of light is incredibly flattering for skin tones and creates a dreamy, natural feel in your photos without harsh shadows or squinting eyes. During the morning hours, the beautiful water at Carmel Beach looks even more blue compared to the evening hours.
🌊 Fewer Crowds, More Space to Play
Carmel Beach is a popular spot and for good reason! In the morning, though, crowds are fewer which means families can relax, play, and be fully present without distractions or dodging people in the background.
🚗 Parking is Way Easier
If I’m being honest, parking at Carmel Beach can be a challenge. If you’ve ever tried to find a spot on a weekend afternoon, you know it can feel impossible. One of the biggest perks of an early session is easier parking.
👶 Mornings = Happy Littles
Kids are sometimes at their best in the morning after a good night’s sleep and some breakfast. Scheduling your session during your child’s natural happy window makes the experience smoother and more enjoyable for everyone.
