A Rainy Day Newborn Session at Home | Apollo Beach Newborn Photographer

When this family reached out for their session, Mom told me she already had beautiful studio newborn portraits taken with the swaddles and perfectly posed. But something was missing. She wanted photos of everyone together, in the space where their life as a family was beginning.

We spent the morning walking through the home, finding the beautiful soft natural light in the living room, nursery and primary bedroom. Baby was a few weeks older than a typical newborn session, but you’d never know it. She was calm and content through every frame.

As we finished up in the nursery, a storm rolled in. The kind Florida is famous for. The power went out and the home got dark. I fortunately came prepared with flash and was able to keep everything bright and true to life for the remainder of our time together.

We finished the last photos by the big bay windows, listening to the rain and thunder. It was such a peaceful and unplanned moment and summed up exactly why I love shooting in someone’s home. No car seat to load, no umbrellas, just their family safe and dry, while the outside world got louder.

That’s the thing about lifestyle sessions. They’re not about perfect timing or conditions. They’re about showing up for real life, whenever it’s ready for you.
